Mariupol Chief of Police Androschuk was afraid to lose his profitable position (paid by Kiev). The day before, Mariupol cops have achieved a verbal agreement with the Resistance movement that the Resistance won't carry guns, and the cops will protect them during the WW2 Victory Day (May 9) celebratory demonstrations. However, Androschuk received new orders from Kiev (which were, in short, to shoot at civilians), and announced those orders to the city policemen. The cops refused to shoot at civilians, and Androschuk shot and severely wounded one of them right at that meeting. The cops protested, so Androschuk ran away, barricaded himself in an empty office, and called the "National Guard" (reminder: the so called "National Guard" is the newly legalized Pravy Sector consisting of openly fascist parties; they had robbed many military and police arsenals during the 3 months of the Maidan unrest).
The "National Guard" started hunting and killing the Mariupol cops who refused to shoot at civilians. First, they have blocked those cops inside the PD building and started shooting at them with firearms, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and also from the combat vehicles. Then they also started shooting and killing the civilians who tried to approach the building to help the cops. The "National Guard" has set the PD building on fire (floors 1 through 3), with many cops inside, including female personnel. The firefighters came to the scene with a significant delay, just like in Odessa where the fire department was almost right around the corner and yet the firemen came only an hour after the building was set on fire. The rumor is that there are more victims in Mariupol than in the Odessa massacre of May 2nd (as a reminder, in Odessa 43 burned bodies plus 180 dead in the building basement - shot, burned alive, raped, or chopped in pieces). One of the survivors, a police officer, says that he had to jump from the 3rd floor in order to save his life. The locals have blocked the exit from the PD territory and did not let the "National Guard" take any surviving cops as hostages. The Kiev authorities and the US media lie about this horrible massacre, just like they lied about what happened in Odessa. Note: The Resistance Movement is mostly the Russian-speaking part of the Ukrainian population (its majority), which does not recognize the Kiev "government" because it came to power through a military coup, preaches fascist ideology, and uses the army, special forces, and paid foreign mercenaries against them, instead of giving them the right to decide their own fate. The Resistance gravitates to Russia due to their ethnic roots and also because Russia has always fought against fascism.
